Archive In Action

Editorial Design | Interactive Publication

Collaborative Design | Archival Research

Working collaboratively in a team of four, we were tasked with transforming archival material on the Matrix Feminist Design Co-operative into a creative publication. After reviewing documents, we chose to focus on Matrix’s collaborative relationship with their clients—specifically how they engaged communities in the design process, listening first to co-create spaces that truly reflected the users’ needs.

In response, we designed a 12-piece interactive publication that can be physically assembled into a circular form—reflecting Matrix’s non-hierarchical team structure. The format invites viewers to sit or stand in the middle, surrounded by both visual and written content, much like Matrix’s clients would have been immersed in their own ideas during collaborative design workshops.

Each segment fits together like a circular puzzle, encouraging hands-on engagement—echoing the way Matrix involved their clients in the design process. The pieces are kept in a custom-designed black folder, accompanied by a transparent acetate sheet that provides context without interrupting the visual experience.

This project highlighted my ability to work effectively in a team, problem-solve creatively, and design with purpose—making space for story, history, and interactivity all at once.
